OH MY GOODNESS this is starting to just be hilarious!!! I´m serious. So we went to the Embassy last Friday to try and get our fingerprints done so our residency could go through. They were closed. The United States Embassy only let´s Americans in from 8 until 11:30, but Hondurans can get in all day. Do you see any problems here? By the way when we got there it was 11:33...thirty three di you get that???? Three minutes. Ok. So we go back early on Monday morning. They said they did in fact have a machine but they only used it internally for people that they hired to work there. Ok arrrggghhh, so they told us we´d need to get fingerprint cards from home, take them to the police department here and have them done and then send them back to the States to have the criminal background check run. Ok. So we call Anita and have her overnight us the fingerprint cards (which takes two days to get here they tell us). Ok. So on Wednesday we go check. No cards. On Thursday we go check...they say no cards. On Friday morning we go check, oh hallelujah cards. So we spend all of Friday afternoon at the police station which is just plain scary in this country getting our fingerprints done. Karen found some man who totally hit on her the whole time wanted to walk her to the bathroom on the third floor (i´m still having a lot of fun with that one as you might expect). Anyway they tell us when we leave with these envelopes that they have sealed up as if all the gold in Fort Knox was contained within them that we must have the US Embassy mail them and you can only get in there from 8 until 11:30 in the mornings. So obviously they were closed. (Who knew my fingerprints were such a hot commodity) So we get up very early yesterday morning and we are at the Embassy at 8 because there are like forever long lines there always and there is NOBODY and we´re like what is going on. Yep you guessed it...closed it´s MLK day. Alright, patience is a virtue, Jesus had it I want it ya know all that. So we decide that we´ll be there bright and early again today 8 oclock sharp or so and so we march up to that door, go through all the security to get inside, walk up to the counter talk to the woman who speaks English even if it is very broken and we say we just came to bring our fingerprints back from the police department that you told us we needed to get from them the other day. They are ready to be mailed and the police dept said you needed to mail them for us. To which she replied, ¨we don´t do that here¨, oh my stinking goodness are you kidding me????!!!!! Now the even funnier part of this is that this is all supposed to be done by the 29th we find out the beginning of last week. And so we went today to the mailboxes place thinking ok we´ll overnight them which should take two business days walk up to the counter still hopeful that perhaps this will work, he looks at the address and says oh i´m sorry we can´t overnight with a P.O. Box address. oh my good grief yes he´s serious. who is playing these crazy jokes????
so anyway we got those ft. knox gold valued fingerprints mailed out today which will take 8 days to get to the states because they will be personally hand delivered by armed guards who have decided to travel by plane with them in hand to deliver them to the Ohio Bureau of Investigation in London, Ohio and present them to two other guards who will replace them and bring them back to Honduras.
Ok the last paragraph is made up but the rest is totally for real and i can´t quit laughing about the whole doggone thing. It´s just become hilarious. We´re like what is going to come next. So please pray with all your heart those suckers don´t get lost in the mail. Doing this again would in fact send me to an insane asylum I do believe.
So next on the agenda for the day as soon as the lawyer´s assistant is ready is trying to go get our Honduras drivers license. If it´s anything like the first process I might write a book about these two events alone. It´s providing me great comedy if no one else gets a single laugh. Figure I might as well laugh or I´d be tempted to claw some eyeballs out.
Hope your day is as delightful as mine have been! :) God does have a sense of humor I never again will doubt that He laughs a BUNCH!!!
Just needed to share the day with ya. no one should get the luxury of keeping this to themselves.
