Here are the sounds on this early Tuesday morning - birds competing for the loudest chirping (squawking?) award, dogs fighting (oh yes, there's always a good dog fight going on somewhere within earshot), the roosters are doing what God made roosters to do, only in Honduras they don't just crow in the dawn, they crow whenever they draw breath throughout the day...and night. And then there are the construction workers right outside our windows building a staging area. Yep, they are at it bright and early, hammers pounding and echoing on this mountaintop retreat we call home for the week. We LOVE this place!
Before we meet for breakfast and then devote some time to prayer and asking God to scrape out our hearts of anything not of Him, I want to tell you the story about the family Team 2 built a house for on Saturday.
The sweet grandmother had a daughter who died 10 years ago, leaving 3 grandchildren for her to raise. Please do not imagine a family where the grandmother can adequately provide for three mouths to feed, let alone a place for them to lay their heads - think shack, think no money and no way to generate any income. That was 10 years ago and they have survived. Survived. Only Survived. Barely Survived.
The now 16 year old granddaughter had been working and saving money with one very deliberate purpose, to be able to afford a new house to be built on their tiny piece of the mountain. (It costs about $1,500 to build the houses you see in our pictures. But it takes years and years for the mountain people to save that kind of money, if ever.)
Last winter, the granddaughter was found on the street near the American Embassy with five gunshots in her head.
When our team showed up to build the house, this grieving grandma was convinced they were sent by angels as her granddaughter's way of providing what she had been dreaming she would be able to do.
Human hands providing heavenly dreams on a mountainside in Honduras.
May your hands be His today.
